# Waymark

Waymark scores how ready a public website is for AI agents. It publishes the official score, layer totals, evidence, and recommended fixes so humans and agents can consume the same snapshot.

Official score: Discovery 20 / Access 30 / Usability 40 / Payments 10. N/A and scanner-error checks drop out of the denominator. Journey evidence never changes the numeric score. Waymark is an independent product; this is not another vendor's score.

One-shot ingest is /llms-full.txt.

## When to use Waymark

Use Waymark before launching or migrating a public site to see whether agents can discover maps, open the door, call tools, and (when relevant) pay. Use it when an agent cannot find docs, recover from an error, or identify an API or MCP surface. Use it after a fix to read the new public snapshot.

Do not use Waymark as a security, accessibility, legal, or compliance certification. It does not evaluate private or authenticated product states. Submit a public HTTP or HTTPS URL on the home page; the completed report is published at `/score/{domain}` (alias `/scan/{domain}`).

## How to get a report

- Browser HTML (score in the first response): /score/{domain}
- Markdown at the same URL: send `Accept: text/markdown`
- JSON retrieve API (does not start a scan): /api/v1/report?url=
- MCP read-only tools: /api/mcp — `waymark_get_report`, `waymark_get_methodology`, `waymark_get_developer_docs`
- CLI: `node scripts/waymark.mjs {domain}` (prints a completed report or the browser score URL; not published to npm)

No API key is required for these read surfaces. There is no write API on the retrieve path. Rate limits: 20 scans/min/IP; 120 report reads/min/IP. GET retrieve is idempotent: repeated requests do not start scans or mutate stored reports; results may change after a separately completed scan. A 429 response includes Retry-After and rate-limit headers. GET retrieve has idempotency.

## When not to use Waymark

- Do not submit credentials, private URLs, or personal data.
- Do not use retrieve APIs or MCP read tools to launch a scan. The separate scan_domain MCP tool can start or reuse a scan; invoke it only when a new scan is intended.
- Do not treat a missing report as a zero score — it means no snapshot is stored yet.
- Do not bulk-scrape in a way that evades the published rate limits (20 scans/min/IP; 120 report reads/min/IP).

## Citing and freshness

Cite the domain, score, grade, scanned_at timestamp, and canonical report URL. A stable URL serves the latest completed snapshot; save Markdown or JSON for an immutable citation. A missing report is not a zero score. Markdown twins have YAML metadata; all human pages support Accept: text/markdown, and /page.md aliases /index.md.
